What is Buddhism?
Buddhism is about discovering the causes of happiness through the development of wisdom and compassion.
The Buddha showed us that the potential for enlightenment exists, right here and now, in all of us.
We all have immense potential for wisdom and compassion, but we are distracted by chasing figments of our imagination.
These figments reflect an attitude of self-clinging and self-cherishing, which we mistakenly imagine will bring us happiness.
How will the Mikyo Dorje Institute help people to experience the benefits of the Buddha’s teachings?
What are the key elements of the Buddhist path?
Ethical Behaviour
Ethical behaviour means being mindful of the way we think and act and speak, remembering not to harm others and to put the needs of others ahead of our own. This restraint from harm is the first step in the development of compassion.
Meditation
In meditation, we begin to calm the turbulence of thoughts and emotions and develop insight into our mind and our experience of the world. With this we become more open to the needs of others.
Wisdom
Through developing wisdom, we gradually come to understand how things really are, and with this we become committed to the benefit of others through the cultivation of compassion.
