Dechen

The Mikyo Dorje Institute project is managed by Dechen, an international association of Buddhist centres under the spiritual guidance of Lama Jampa Thaye and Karma Thinley Rinpoche.

Our history

Lama Jampa met one of his main Buddhist teachers, Karma Thinley Rinpoche in 1972. Together, they established Dechen.

Dechen is now a thriving community of practising Buddhists, with centres across Western Europe and North America.

Over the last fifty years, Dechen centres have hosted teachings from many Tibetan Buddhist masters, including the spiritual heads of the Kagyu and Sakya Schools.

Our activities

As well as hosting teaching events by Buddhist masters, Dechen centres around the world offer weekly classes and introductory groups where anyone can come to learn about Buddhism and meditation.

As well as Buddhist teachings, the centres also host many other public events, such as film screenings, musical recitals and community open days.

Schools and other groups visit Dechen centres in order to see where and how Buddhists practise in their local area.

Dechen members also serve the wider community by such things as taking on the role of chaplains in NHS trusts and HM prisons.
